Test Writing Committee FAQs

• How long will I be required to serve as a committee member?

  Committee members are required to serve one term (2 years), which may be renewable at the discretion of the Board for a maximum of two terms served. Each two-year term will consist of four (4) writing cycles.

• How often will committee members have to write questions?

  There are two writing cycles per year; dates will range from:

  • December 2023 – March 2024
  • June 2024 – September 2024
  • December 2024 – March 2025
  • June 2025 – September 2025

• How many questions will committee members be assigned to write per cycle?

  Committee members will be assigned to write around 20 questions per cycle; this also includes the selection of 3-4 supporting articles from ABAI approved sources.

• As a committee member will I be required to write questions outside of my specialty?

  Committee members will be required to write questions from any category that they’re assigned, whether it’s their specialty or not.

• What are the CAP question categories?

  • A1 - Head and Neck
  • A2 - Dermatologic
  • A3 - Lung
  • A4 - Food and Drug Allergy/Hypersensitivity Reactions
  • A5 - Anaphylaxis
  • B1 - Hypersensitivity Disorders
  • B2 - Immunodeficiencies
  • B3 - Eosinophilic and Gastrointestinal Disorders
  • C1 - Emerging National Health Priorities

• Do committee members receive CME credit?

  Yes. Committee members will receive 10 CME credits following each writing cycle.

• Are committee members required to participate in CAP?

  Committee members are exempt from taking CAP while serving on the committee, and two (2) years after serving on the committee. However, please note committee members are required to be “Meeting MOC Requirements” throughout their term on the committee and current in MOC Parts I, II and IV while serving on the committee.
